Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, visited President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos on Tuesday.
The visit comes as efforts intensify to reconcile Fubara with his estranged political mentor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the meeting in a Facebook post on Tuesday evening.
โGovernor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office, visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday,โ Onanuga wrote.
In March, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended Fubara from office for six months after reconciliation attempts between the warring political factions failed.
Officials have not disclosed the details of Tuesdayโs meeting between the President and Fubara.
The visit comes just a week after Fubara announced his decision to put aside personal pride and interests in a bid to restore peace in Rivers State.
Fubara acknowledged ongoing reconciliation with Wike, as both men remain central figures in the political crisis that led President Tinubu to suspend both the stateโs executive and legislature.
โWe have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process. And that is what we are doing. What is important is for the state to move forward. It is not about you โ the stateโs interest is paramount,โ Fubara said.
